End Ship Strikes and Animal Injuries
Mission & Approach
Implementing a cetacean signal system to prevent ship strikes with whales and dolphins offers numerous advantages for both marine life and maritime industries. Ship strikes, which occur when vessels collide with whales and dolphins, pose a significant threat to their populations and can result in severe injury or death. While there is no official number, it is estimated that tens of thousands of whales and dolphins die every year due to ship strikes.
In addition to the technical development of a prevention system, we expose ships or boats that do not adhere to local regulations to prevent collisions, thus contributing to the death toll of whales and dolphins. We document each case, reach out to local authorities, and file charges when the legal basis is well defined. Simply by reducing vessel speeds or respecting cetacean habitats, we can prevent animal injuries and deaths. We are committed to advocating for these changes.
