Mission & Approach

WeWhale.org is a member of the IWC (International Whaling Commission) as an NGO observer. The IWC is the global intergovernmental body where countries and their delegates, known as commissioners, discuss the conservation of cetaceans, and unfortunately, also whale killing quotas and methods during biennial meetings.

Since there are still countries in favor of whale hunting and killing, WeWhale actively engages as an NGO member with IWC member states to advocate for an end to whale killing and hunting. The last meeting was held in 2022 in Portorož, Slovenia, and the next meeting will take place in Lima, Peru, in 2024. During and after each meeting, we keep our community informed about the main outcomes.
