End Captivity
Mission & Approach
Recognising the need for change and a solution to liberate captive dolphins and whales, organisations and individuals must come together to establish sanctuaries dedicated to providing a more humane alternative for these intelligent beings. The creation of sanctuaries represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to free whales and dolphins from captivity.
These sanctuaries aim to replicate natural oceanic environments, offering large, enclosed spaces that closely resemble the animals’ native habitats. The locations are carefully chosen to ensure optimal conditions, including appropriate water depth, temperature, and natural marine resources. The primary goal is to provide a safe haven where these animals can thrive and experience a life as close as possible to what they would encounter in the wild.
WeWhale.org actively participates as a leading member in a European sanctuary dedicated to reintegrating captive dolphins and whales within the EU. The primary objective of this initiative is to facilitate the transition of these marine mammals from captivity back to their natural environments in a responsible and ethical manner.
The creation of sanctuaries is not only a means of liberation for individual animals but also a powerful statement about our society’s evolving values. It reflects a growing awareness of the ethical implications of keeping these intelligent creatures in captivity solely for human entertainment. Sanctuaries serve as living reminders of our commitment to respecting and protecting the rights of all living beings.
